When it comes to waterproofing a shower, wet room or bathroom, the details matter just as much as the big decisions. You can choose the finest tiles, the most capable membrane, and a high-performance tile adhesive — but if the joints, corners and penetrations aren't properly sealed, water will find a way through. That's exactly the problem AquaTank SA Tape+ is designed to solve.
This self-adhesive tanking tape creates a continuous, reliable waterproof barrier at all the most vulnerable points in a wet area installation. Floor-to-wall junctions, internal and external corners, joints between boards, pipe penetrations, waste outlet surrounds — everywhere moisture concentrates and where failures are most likely to begin. AquaTank SA Tape+ locks those areas down before a single tile goes up.
What Makes AquaTank SA Tape+ Different
At 75mm wide, AquaTank SA Tape+ offers noticeably greater coverage than many standard waterproofing tapes. That extra width delivers a deeper, more confident seal across junctions and transitions, reducing the risk of edge lift or water tracking under the tape over time.
The tape combines a butyl adhesive backing with a reinforced fleece surface. Butyl is one of the most trusted materials in professional waterproofing because it stays permanently flexible — it won't harden, crack or lose adhesion as a building naturally moves and settles. The reinforced fleece layer adds cross-directional stability, so the tape holds its position whether you're working on a vertical wall or a horizontal floor surface.
Application is clean and uncomplicated. Peel back the release liner gradually, press the tape firmly into place, and smooth it down with a roller or straight edge to eliminate any air pockets. There's no wet compound to wait on — it bonds on contact and you can move straight on to the next stage of your installation.
Where to Use It
AquaTank SA Tape+ is the right call at every high-risk junction on a wet area job. Installers typically reach for it at:
- Floor-to-wall junctions in showers and wet rooms, where movement between the screed and wall substrate is most likely to cause problems over time
- Internal and external corners where membrane alone can struggle to fully bridge and maintain contact
- Board-to-board joints across cement-based tile backer board installations
- Pipe and waste outlet penetrations where a clean, watertight seal around irregular shapes is critical
- Shower tray and bath perimeters before overcoating with membrane and finishing with tile adhesive
It bonds reliably to plasterboard, cement-based boards, screeds and concrete substrates — making it genuinely adaptable across the range of backgrounds you'll encounter on real projects. If you're using Marmox Multiboard or Schluter KERDI-BOARD as your substrate, AquaTank SA Tape+ is the ideal companion for sealing the joints before membrane application.
Part of a Complete Waterproofing System
AquaTank SA Tape+ is engineered to be used as part of the broader AquaTank tanking system, available as a complete kit via the AquaTank Kit (10sqm). For porous substrates such as plasterboard, prime the surface first to ensure the tape achieves maximum adhesion. Once the tape is firmly in place at all critical junctions, overcoat the entire wet area with AquaTank Neo-Flex Membrane, bridging fully over the tape and onto the surrounding substrate. The result is a continuous, joint-free waterproof layer ready to receive tile adhesive and tiles directly.
The system is built around the guidance set out in BS 5385-1:2018 — the British Standard for the installation of ceramic and natural stone wall tiles in wet areas — giving you, your clients, and your trades the assurance that the installation has been carried out to the right standard.
Once tanking is complete, pair your installation with a water-resistant tile adhesive suitable for wet environments, and finish with a grout rated for wetrooms to ensure consistent protection across the full tiled surface. For further guidance on getting a wet area installation right from start to finish, our waterproofing installation guide and DIY guides section are worth reading before you begin.
Storage and Limitations
Keep rolls stored flat in a dry, well-ventilated space below 30°C. Do not apply to damp or actively wet surfaces, and avoid use on substrates treated with oil-based or stearate-containing products, as these can compromise the adhesive bond. AquaTank SA Tape+ is not recommended for high-heat environments such as saunas or steam rooms, and should be used within 12 months of purchase.
