Mapei Ultraflex S2 Quick — Fast-Setting, Highly Flexible S2 Tile Adhesive
Ultraflex S2 Quick is a one-component, high-performance, fast-setting, slip-resistant (thixotropic) S2 lightweight cementitious adhesive designed for demanding installs where you need speed + flexibility. It’s ideal for porcelain, ceramic, mosaics and non-moisture sensitive natural stone on internal and external walls and floors, including jobs where substrates may experience movement or micro-cracking.
What it’s best for
Fast turnarounds, large-format porcelain, challenging substrates, vertical installs (non-slump), and areas that need a highly deformable S2 adhesive.
Why people choose it
Quick set times, strong early grab, excellent deformability (S2), lightweight with high yield (around 30% more than conventional cementitious Mapei adhesives).
Key features
- Fast setting for quicker grouting and earlier light foot traffic.
- Highly deformable S2 performance to help cope with movement and micro-cracks.
- Slip resistant / non-slump (thixotropic) — ideal for walls and large formats.
- Lightweight, high yield (approx. 30% more yield vs traditional cementitious adhesives).
- Suitable for internal & external walls/floors with ceramic, porcelain, mosaics and non-moisture sensitive natural stone.
Where it works best
Tiles & finishes
Porcelain, ceramic, mosaics, and non-moisture sensitive natural stone tiles (walls + floors).
Areas
Internal/external floors and walls, including high-demand installs where flexibility and quick set matter.
For wet areas and external floors, aim for full bedding (back-butter where required) to support large formats and reduce voids.
How to use
- 1 Prep the substrate: Ensure surfaces are sound, clean and free from dust, grease, paint and loose material. Substrates should be stable and suitable for tiling.
- 2 Mix: Add 15kg powder to 5.1–5.4L clean water. Mix to a smooth, lump-free paste, rest for 5 minutes, then re-mix.
- 3 Apply: Key in a thin contact layer with the flat edge of your trowel, then comb with a suitable notched trowel. Use a notch that achieves full coverage for your tile size and substrate.
- 4 Fix tiles: Press tiles firmly into place to collapse ridges. For floors, external areas and wet zones, back-butter as needed to achieve near-total coverage.
- 5 Respect bed depth: Maximum bed thickness is 10mm.
- 6 Clean up: Wash tools with water while fresh; wipe surfaces before the adhesive sets.
Important usage notes
- • Don’t add extra water once the mix has started to set.
- • Don’t apply directly over underfloor/undertile heating elements — heating pipes/cables should be encapsulated in a suitable screed or smoothing compound first.
- • Not suitable on metallic, rubber, PVC or linoleum surfaces.
- • Avoid marble/artificial composite materials that may move significantly in the presence of humidity.
Coverage & planning
Typical consumption is ~0.9 kg/m² per mm of adhesive thickness (commonly ~1.5–2.5 kg/m², depending on notch size, substrate flatness and tile format). This adhesive is designed to deliver very high yield.
Quick estimator
Approx. kg needed = Area (m²) × Thickness (mm) × 0.9.
This is a guide only — always allow for substrate variation, back-buttering, waste and tile format.
Complete the system
For best results, pair your adhesive with suitable prep, levelling, grout and sealant products:
