Two-component, high-performance, polyurethane adhesives for ceramic tiles and stone material
White thixotropic version of KERALASTIC, particularly suitable for vertical applications. High performance two-component polyurethane adhesive for the installation of ceramic, porcelain, natural and agglomerate stone tiles & mosaics on interior and exterior walls and floors.
Improved reaction resin adhesive R2 particularly suitable for use on metal, wood, fibre-cement, rubber, PVC and linoleum substrates.

WHERE TO USE
Indoor and outdoor, bonding of wall and floor ceramic tiles, stone material mosaics, etc. on:· screeds, renders, concrete, asphalt, wood, metal, PVC, reinforced polyester, fibre-cement, gypsum, gypsum board, gypsum panels, etc.
Keralastic and Keralastic T are two-component, solvent and water free adhesives which are flexible and waterproof. They are made up of a polyurethane base (component A) and a special hardener (component B).
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Keralastic and Keralastic T are two-component, solvent-free, and water-free adhesives known for their flexibility and waterproof properties. They consist of a polyurethane base (Component A) and a special hardener (Component B). When mixed, these components form a paste with the following characteristics:
- Good workability
- Excellent durability and resistance to aging
- Strong adhesion to all common building surfaces
- Hardens through a chemical reaction without shrinkage, resulting in high resistance
- High deformability
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Avoid use on very damp surfaces or in conditions where there is a risk of rising damp.
- The components are pre-measured to prevent mixing errors; do not use partial quantities as incorrect ratios can impair curing.
- Use within the temperature range of +10°C to +30°C.
- For surfaces subjected to continuous immersion in water, consult the MAPEI Technical Services Department before use.
- Do not use Keralastic and Keralastic T to bond transparent glass materials.
- Avoid using these adhesives on particularly porous or light-colored natural stones; for such applications, use Ultrabond Eco PU 2K instead.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Preparing the Substrates:
- Ensure substrates are cured, mechanically strong, and free of loose particles, grease, oil, paint, wax, and sufficiently dry.
- Cement substrates must not shrink after tile installation. During warmer months, renders should cure for at least one week per centimeter of thickness, and cementitious screeds should cure for at least 28 days unless using MAPEI’s special binders like Mapecem, Mapecem Pronto, Topcem, or Topcem Pronto. Failing this, adhesion will be compromised.
- Remove rust from iron surfaces by sandblasting. Reinforce gypsum, gypsum board, and anhydrite substrates with a coat of Primer EP or Primer MF.
Preparing the Mix:
- Keralastic and Keralastic T are supplied in ready-to-mix cans:
- Component A: Grey or white, 94 parts by weight
- Component B: Transparent straw, 6 parts by weight
- The resin (Component A) and hardener (Component B) ratios are fixed; altering them may result in improper hardening.
- Pour Component B into Component A and mix until a uniform grey or white paste forms. Use a low-speed electric stirrer to ensure thorough mixing without overheating, which would reduce working time. Use the mixture within 30-40 minutes of preparation.
Applying the Mix:
- Apply a uniform layer of Keralastic or Keralastic T to the substrate using a notched trowel. Choose a trowel that ensures at least 65-70% coverage on the tile backs.
- For exterior installations, fully cover the tile backs with adhesive.
- When both waterproofing and bonding are needed (e.g., on wooden kitchen worktops), use one of the following methods:
- Spread Keralastic or Keralastic T on the substrate with a flat trowel to a minimum thickness of 2 mm, then rework the surface with a notched trowel, maintaining at least 1 mm thickness even after tile installation.
- Alternatively, spread Keralastic or Keralastic T with a flat trowel to a uniform thickness of 1 mm for waterproofing. After curing (within 24 hours), apply a second layer with a notched trowel.
GROUTING AND SEALING
Tile joints can be grouted 12 hours after installation using suitable MAPEI cementitious or epoxy grouts, available in various colors. Expansion joints should be sealed with MAPEI sealants.
SET TO LIGHT FOOT TRAFFIC
Floors can handle light foot traffic 12 hours after installation.
READY FOR USE
Surfaces are fully ready for use after 7 days.
CLEANING
Tools, buckets, and clothing can be cleaned with alcohol before the adhesive hardens. Once hardened, Keralastic and Keralastic T can be removed mechanically or with Pulicol 2000.
CONSUMPTION
Adhesive consumption for bonding ceramics and stone materials:
- Mosaics and small tiles (trowel No. 4): 2.5 kg/m²
- Standard tiles (trowel No. 5): 3.5 kg/m²
- Large tiles, marble, and stones (with back buttering): 5 kg/m²
